Tool for Musicians
Music is one; only the notation is different.
Indian classical music uses relative pitch — each swara is defined by its distance from a chosen tonic. Western notation uses absolute pitch, pinning every note to a fixed frequency.
This tool bridges both systems. Pick your tonic (Sa), enter a sequence, and move freely between worlds — for students, composers, and curious ears.
Swara → Staff — type or upload swara notation and get a MusicXML file back, ready to open in MuseScore, Sibelius, Finale, or Dorico. Set your tonic and raga; the converter resolves each swara to its exact pitch class, infers the Western key signature, and places octave dots automatically. Carnatic ragas are looked up by name with fuzzy autocomplete. Hindustani players can define scales note-by-note on a swarasthana picker. Both modes support full tala barline layout and a syntax-highlighted editor with keyboard shortcuts for octave transposition.
Staff → Swara — upload any MusicXML file and get clean swara notation out. The parser strips grace notes, ties, ornaments, multi-voice layers, and percussion automatically, keeping only the melodic line. Sub-beat notes are clumped into beat-slots with duration markers so rhythm is fully readable without staff lines. Rests use - at every level; an empty measure collapses to a single dash. The app detects tala from the time signature, scores your pitch content against a raga database, and outputs numbered swaras (R2, G1…) with a one-click Simplify mode for a clean raga-specific file.
